It’s a good idea, otherwise you may find yourself out of pocket if you are ill or injured.
We found on the website for Citizenship and Immigration Canada the following frequently asked question:
“If I get sick or have an accident while I am visiting Canada, will the Government of Canada pay for my medical treatment?”
The answer:
“Canada does not pay for hospital or medical services for visitors. Make sure you have health insurance to cover any medical costs before you come to Canada.”
For more information about visiting Canada check out the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website at:
http://www.cic.gc.ca.
For more information about the province, or provinces you will be visiting while in Canada visit the website’s of each province’s government. Each has a section devoted to visitors:
Found another resource you might find handy. It’s a booklet available through the website for the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association Inc titled: A guide to travel health insurance. The brochure, in .pdf format, touches on Visitors to Canada travel insurance on page 8.
