If I rent a room in my home, do I have to tell my insurer?

I’m thinking about renting out a room in my house. Do I have to let my insurer know?

If you plan to rent out a room in your home, you will need to contact your home insurer. While it is unlikely you will need a separate policy to ensure you are adequately protected and covered, they may recommend that you enhance existing portions of your policy. If you do not update your insurer, letting them know that you are renting out a room, any claims arising at all could technically not be covered.
