Hi,
We have developed an online, stove-on-alert fire prevention tool that helps to prevent kitchen fires from one of the leading causes of fire in the home … unattended cooking. The question I have is could one apply for a small discount if they have this product in their home?
It’s very easy to activate for the home owner and it works by reminding the occupant every 3 minutes from their computer speakers, that their stove is on in the event of an accidental distraction from the stove. Our company’s founder is a former search and rescue professional and this and some of our other products have received praise by industry professionals.
Would your company consider offering a small discount to home owners that have this fire prevention product?
Looking forward to your reply,
Thank you!

Thanks for your post. Neither KanetixForum.ca nor Kanetix.ca are an insurance company. Kanetix.ca provides an insurance and mortgage comparison shopping service, while KanetixForum.ca provides a place for consumers to ask insurance and mortgage questions.
While I’m not sure how products (like some anti-theft devices) come to be considered for an insurance discount, I will see if there is any information that I might be able to pass along to you. With a little bit of luck, hopefully, I’ll be able to point you in the right direction.
Great concept. In speaking with a licensed broker, it was suggested that you should probably start by contacting some insurers about your concept directly. Kanetix is a shopping service for consumers and is always interested in providing shoppers with a lower rate where possible but these rates are determined by the insurance companies themselves. You might have success if you track down some insurance companies and group insurance providers as well. You never know, you might be able to get a small discount for people who use your product which I’m sure your customers would appreciate.
Depending on the provinces that you want to focus on, you can usually find a list of insurance providers. For example, if you wanted to find what insurance providers operate in Ontario you could find a list on the FSCO site at:
http://www.fsco.gov.on.ca/english/licensing/licensedinsurers.asp
I also found a list of authorized insurance companies online for British Columbia at the BC Financial Institutions Commission at:
http://www.fic.gov.bc.ca/responsibilities/insurance/authorizedinsurancecompanies.asp?NameSelect=A
These are just two examples of the information you can find online by province.
I hope this information helps. Good luck!
