   Unfortunately, unless the product manufacturer offers some type of extended warranty that will cover theft, loss, etc. you cannot insure an individual item (such as a macbook) by itself with a standalone property insurance policy.

   However, if you were to get a tenant’s property insurance policy (which you should probably have anyway) most insurance companies will allow you to insure your laptop as a floater. They would charge a separate premium to insure it and usually need a receipt showing its value. This floater usually costs between $2 - $4 per $100 of insurance. For example, a $2000 laptop would cost around $40 - $80 to insure per year, on top of the policy’s regular premium.
